Arabic 204: Arabic Analysis of the “4 Quls”

Welcome to Arabic 204: Arabic Analysis of the “4 Quls” (Surah al-Kaafirun | al-Ikhlaas | al-Falaq | an-Naas)

This is a linguistic study, breakdown & exegeses of the shorter chapters of Quran that begin with the word “Qul”.

Course Description:

This is a two-day seminar focused on providing a detailed Arabic analysis of four chapters recited and memorized by almost every Muslim.

In this course, we will break down “The Four Qul’s: Kaafirun, Ikhlaas, Falaq, & Naas”, chapter by chapter, verse by verse, word by word. We will do so by studying the vocabulary in each verse and specific word choice therein. We will also derive essential grammar, morphology (Sarf), and Balaagha principles in each verse. And finally analyze the overall meaning (which will also include benefits in Aqeedah, Hadith and Usul al-Fiqh) provided by scholars of Tafsir.

If you have taken Arabic 210: Arabic Analysis of Quranic Parables, then these classes will be similar to that course (with the addition of benefits from other sciences).

This course is suitable for BEGINNER, INTERMEDIATE, & ADVANCED levels. Students should be able to read Quran, however, it is not mandatory.

By Allah’s permission, students at the end of the course will:

-Understand the four ‘Quls’ as explained by the scholars of Tafsir
-Be able to recognize how grammar, sarf, balaagha rules are applied to these chapters – extremely beneficial for students currently in our Arabic 301, 310, and 311 courses
-Develop love and connection with these short chapters in length but heavy in meaning
-Recite and reflect on these chapters with meaning and contemplation
-Truly understand the beauty of the Quran and why every Aayah آية (verse) is an Aayah آية (sign)!
